ARTC 1302 Digital Imaging I

Digital Imaging I is a solid introduction to Adobe Photoshop Creative Cloud application with specific attention to practical applications of digital imaging, to include preparing images for print and web output. Digital imaging using raster image editing and/or image creation software: scanning, resolution, file formats, output devices, color systems, and image acquisitions. Gain proficiency with palettes, selections, layers, masks, image editing and painting. Introduction to layer styles, type effects, and filters. Gain specific understanding of image resolution and pixel depth for variety of output needs. Encourages creative studio skills. 
Required Equipment: Hardware: - a PC or a Mac that meets the minimum technical specifications to run Photoshop CC 2024 (view this link), a webcam, a microphone, and a high-speed internet connection.

ARTC 1305 Basic Graphic Design

A study of two-dimensional (2-D) design with emphasis on the visual communication design process. Topics include basic terminology and graphic design principles. Introduction to the fundamentals of design that lead to the discovery and comprehension of the visual language. Introduction to drawing techniques, skills, and concepts using various black and white media. ARTC 1313 Digital Publishing I

Digital Publishing 1 fundamentals using digital layout as a primary publishing tool addressing the basic concepts and terminology associated with typography and page layout. Topics include an overview of industry standard software for page layout and design, and various methods of reproduction for print and electronic delivery. A solid introduction to InDesign Creative Cloud application tools and skills used to prepare electronic pre-press art for print reproduction with a goal of economy, neatness and faithfulness to the designer's layout or written instructions. Material covered will include graphic terminology, type specification, and evolution of the printed piece from concept to final printed and/or web-digital deliverables project.

Digital Imaging II is an intermediate to advanced exploration of principles of digital image creation and production process for print, web and digital media work-flows. Emphasis on raster or bit mapped based image creation. Exploring digital workflow and creative aspects of image quality for electronic illustration for commercial and fine art applications. This includes intermediate to advanced techniques using Adobe Photoshop Creative Cloud application to gain greater efficiency using masks and channels; short cuts and actions; type effects; and controlled use of layer styles, blending modes, filters and other special effects. Introduction to Camera Raw, Photoshop Motion and 3D. Includes introduction to color management for output to print and web. ARTC 2373 Design Studio I

Students will spend the first half of the semester learning how Design Teams and Freelance Artists work, including understanding contracts, business terms and more. During second half of the semester, the class will work with industry partners in a team setting, simulating a real-world studio environment, on an assigned task that will be used in a real-world setting. We will be learning how to work effectively as a team to complete a real, deadline-driven project.
